I was fortunate enough to help friends out by fitting shelves in their son’s bedroom a few weeks ago
Cost for the wood and brackets was around R1600,00.
The shelf is probably the simplest and most affordable decorative fixture one can utilize to alter the façade of any wall or ambiance of a whole room for that matter.
For this application we used solid laminated pine shelving, conveniently available in standard sizes at your local hardware store. I however opted to go one step further and obtained the pine shelving at Discount Boards for half the price on offer at the mainstream hardware stores.
The shelving brackets I bought from Build It. These type you will find anywhere and are the best value for money. At Agrimark however, you’ll find brackets that are more costly but a bit more sturdy. See pic below: Mamba Bracket @ R70.
I did have to do a little bit of carpentry work on this project due to the corner joint but for shelves as depicted in the inspiration picture below you will basically require a drill, hammer and spirit level.
So there you go and off you go to your nearest hardware store to liven up that dead old wall that has been staring at you for years. The whole family will love you for it!
